ORGANIZING YOUR SWEATERS

Tis the season for storing away your summer blouses and finding space for all of your cold-weather sweaters. Finding enough room for and making sure that all of your sweaters are stored in the right place can definitely be a tricky task. Certain sweaters are better off being folded as opposed to being hung up and vice versa. And naturally, the sweaters that you gravitate towards more, should be easier to access than others. Keep on reading for some tips and tricks on how to efficiently organize your sweaters this year.

Choosing the best way to store your sweaters is fully dependent on what type of sweaters you own. Dedicate some time to taking a full overview of all of your knits. How many heavyweight knits do you own? Lightweight? Medium? And if you have the extra time, we really recommend categorizing them according to weight and material because it is just going to make your organizing process easier and quicker.

Some people say to never hang sweaters because they will stretch and lose their shape and that folding is the best choice, but there are some exceptions. If you have lighter weight sweaters, hanging them up is not the worst thing in the world. If you have to hang them do invest in those thick, padded hangers to preserve the shape of the shoulder. You don’t ever want to hang a sweater on a wire hanger from the dry cleaners.

Another great option is filing your sweaters in drawers so you can find the perfect one to wear in seconds. This method is easy. Simply fold your sweaters like you normally would and instead of stacking them on top of one another, place them vertically like shown in the picture below. This will give you more drawer space and visibility so you can see all of your items. No more digging through and making a mess.

Lastly, don’t feel like you always have to hang up your sweaters or stuff them into your drawers. Stacking folded sweaters on open shelves will clear out a ton of space in your closet. We recommend not piling them too high or you’ll risk them falling. Depending on the thickness, we recommend no more than 5 sweaters in a pile. This method allows you to quickly grab a sweater and go.
