HOW TO CURATE A CAPSULE WARDROBE

But, believe it or not, creating a capsule wardrobe can be so beneficial to all aspects of your life. And while that may sound a bit dramatic, let us explain what exactly a capsule wardrobe is, why you should consider it, and the initial steps you should take to create one.

A capsule wardrobe is a small and styled, curated and comfortable closet that is filled with only pieces that you absolutely love, make you feel your best and that coordinate together to get you up and out the door on time stress-free and knowing for a fact that you are beautiful.

When thinking about it at first hand, it may seem complicated and maybe even impossible. To make it an easy process and even a little bit fun, we have come up with five steps that we think are the best for starting and completing the creation of your ideal capsule wardrobe so keep reading!

Step One: The Purge

This part is definitely the least glamorous and requires the most work. Dive headfirst into your closet and inspect every item that you own. From here, create 3 piles, the “love it” pile, the “kind of like it pile” and the “donation pile.” If there is a piece that you cannot decide on, set it aside and go back to it later. But odds are if it does not make it into the “love it” pile right off the bat, it is probably not worth keeping.

Step 2: The List

Now comes the fun part! Set it up however you would like, and physically write down 8-10 pieces that you love and look for common denominators in this list. Pay attention to fabrics, brands, colors, etc. Then, make a list of 8-10 pieces you own and never wear and from here try and decide what is not working for you. Next, take some time to write down in a few words your overall lifestyle, special events you have coming up, the weather ahead, and play a little word associate game and come up with some words that you associate with your style. After that, make a list of stores and brands that you love and know work for you in terms of style, fit and budget. Once you feel like you have a handle on your lists, create a reasonable shopping list as well as a budget.

Step 3: The Try on Portion

Depending on how your closet purge went, the piles you have made can potentially be overwhelming. But this is all the more reason to have yourself a little fashion show. Try on everything that you threw in the love it pile to be extra sure and everything from the kind of like it pile so that you can make a decision on whether it is staying or going. This will ultimately help you decide what you need and do not need to look for during your first capsule closet shopping trip.

Step 4: The Internet Inspo

Websites like Pinterest, Tumblr, even just Google Images are so helpful when it comes to getting some serious outfit inspiration. Search all the keywords that come to mind to help you gain some new inspo as to what you may think you need when building your new capsule wardrobe. Maybe there is something you tossed that you did not totally hate, but the color did not work for you, start searching for that piece in a color better suited for your closet and see how it can complement your other items.

Step 5: Shopping Time

It is time to pull it together! Your capsule wardrobe that is. From the previous steps, you have pretty much all of the lists and inspiration you need to gather up the items necessary to create your newly vamped capsule wardrobe.
