ACHIEVING THE PERFECT WEDDING GUEST LOOK
There are the obvious no-no’s when it comes to figuring out what you are going to wear to a wedding. Such as, do not wear white. It is also not your best bet to wait until the last minute to start shopping because god forbid it does not go as planned and you are basically forced to wear your dusty, old prom dress. Read on for a few tips and styling ideas to make shopping for your next wedding guest fit a little less of a hassle.
Think Long-term
When shopping for a wedding guest dress or outfit, it is a smart idea to think of longevity. You do not want a one-time wear piece hanging in your closet for the next however many years because it is just taking up space and every time you look at it you will probably feel some type of regret. It is also not great for the environment, so be sustainable and look for something that you know you will get more than one wear out of it. Not to mention, it is less of a painful credit card swipe knowing that you are going to get multiple uses out of it.
Take Advantage of The Midi Dress
The majority of dresses on the sales floors right now are midi length. The best thing about a midi dress is that they go with a strappy stiletto or a knee-high boot, even a sneaker for the super casual, low key weddings! Whatever type of wedding you have coming up, a midi dress should definitely be on your radar when you start shopping. You can find a floral print one that is suitable for a day-time wedding or a darker, solid color one that can work for a black-tie wedding. It all depends on how you wear it, and what you wear it with.
Acknowledge the Time
While it may be news to some, what you wear to a wedding should depend on what time the wedding is. Typically, if the wedding is at 4 pm or earlier, you do not need to go super fancy. This is expected to be an overall more casual wedding based on the start time. If it is on the later side, aka 6 pm or even later, this is when the true evening wear should come out to play. For men, a darker colored suit and for women a dressy cocktail dress or an evening gown.
Do Not Limit Yourself to A Dress
If you left your last couple of mall trips empty-handed after looking for a wedding guest dress, understand that you do not need to limit yourself to wearing a dress. You can still fit the desired attire requirement in a pantsuit, a jumpsuit, a co-ord, or even a fun pair of trousers. Pantsuits can be extremely feminine and classy and can definitely be perceived as formal. A plus when it comes to a co-ord is that the entire outfit is basically picked out for you once you find the one you like. Opting for a pair of trousers requires some more effort because you need the perfect blouse to top it off. And if you are going for a pair of trousers for a black-tie, late-night wedding, you need to, of course, determine if it is formal enough.
Shop Secondhand
A concern for a lot of people when shopping for an occasion like this is what it is going to cost them. Do not be ashamed of having to shop on a budget. Besides, the only wedding you want to be breaking the bank on is potentially your own. There are plenty of ways to go about shopping for a wedding guest outfit while being money conscious. Shopping second hand gives you so many awesome options of both used and brand-new dresses, jumpsuits, pantsuits, etc. for a guaranteed lower price. You could even find a super high-end, vintage, designer dress for half of its original price.
Do not let the process of finding something to wear to a wedding ruin the excitement of the celebration or the night as a whole.
