A GUIDE TO LAYERING

If you struggle to pull outfits together in the wintertime, you are definitely not alone. A lot of people struggle to get dressed when the cold weather kicks in. The main conflict is usually that you want to still look cute and feel confident, while also wanting to stay somewhat warm and cozy at the same time. The key to solving this fashion dilemma is layering, and we are providing you with a few tips and tricks on how to do just that.

Layering Basics

It is important to keep your inner layers as light as possible because you are going to be putting plenty of more layers on top and you do not want to feel bulky and uncomfortable. The point of layering is to stay warm while you are outside but be able to remove a layer or two when indoors and being able to achieve a comfortable temperature while inside. The inner, lighter layers might involve a tank top, t-shirt, even a blouse. Be sure to keep the fabrics of these pieces thin and relatively breathable.

Match Your Layers Accordingly

The reason for layering, as previously stated, is to still look and feel cute while keeping warm. Therefore, do not mix and match colors and prints too much when it comes to layering. Make sure colors compliment each other and that prints or fabrics do not clash. When getting dressed, try to keep in mind what layers are going to be totally visible and which aren’t. Do not overthink the ones that are going to be mainly hidden, and make the top layers coordinate with other layers that will be either showing completely or just peeking out.

Outer Layer Options

Any type of oversized jacket or coat is perfect for layering because it gives you some extra room. Capes are great because they do not typically have sleeves. You can pile on as many t-shirts, sweaters, etc., as you want and only have to worry about securing the cape up top. Trench coats or longer pea coats are also a great option because since they are longer, you can wear a duster or long cardigan as one of your layers.

Do Not Forget Accessories

Do not forget that layering does not just mean your clothes. Cold weather accessories are the best part of wintertime outfits. Keep it cozy and cute by adding in a scarf, a beanie, even some gloves. And if maybe a beanie is not for you, knit headbands and earmuffs are also a super cute option. There are plenty of accessories that are sure to keep you warm while staying on-trend.
