2019 NYFW FAVORITES

The September 2019 New York Fashion Week was once again, nothing less than impressive. The man behind it all, Tom Ford, newly named as the chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, fully intended on five-jam packed days of fashion and fun. According to Ford, the compressed schedule was meant to tighten sprawling show formats as it would be easier for editors and buyers and guests of fashion shows. The week was filled with model diversity, dramatic performances, and eccentric locations. Here are a few of our favorite stand out shows.
TOMMY X ZENDAYA FALL 2019
Tommy and Zendaya
Tommy Hilfiger made a return to NYFW to showcase his Fall 2019 Tommy X Zendaya collection, a collaboration with American actress Zendaya. The iconic event took place at the historic Apollo Theater and featured live performances, singing, and dancing. This was Tommy and Zendayas’ second collection together and much like their first disco-themed runway earlier this year, the energy was through the roof of the venue. This season's runway was 70’s inspired and full of diversity. Being that the collection was see-now, buy-now, we saw a lot of the biggest current trends. Tailored blazers, high waisted – wide-legged bottoms, wrap dresses and statement outerwear pieces to name a few. Not to mention leopard print, snakeskin, and houndstooth, easily the 3 most popular prints at the moment.
TOM FORD SPRING 2020
Tom Ford Spring 2020
As for Tom Ford, this was Ford’s first show as chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), a role he took over from Diane Von Furstenberg earlier this summer. Ford took his guests underground to a deserted subway station where the platform doubled as a runway. There were real-life subway workers and the dim lights combined with the intense music really made for a cool, unique, downtown vibe. This collection screamed streetwear but with a luxury twist. Athletic shorts were paired with slinky, silk tops and ball skirts were paired with baggy, beaten up t-shirts. We also saw a lot of jumpsuits and oversized blazers. Both two are big and recurring trends were seen at this season's NYFW.
MICHAEL KORS SPRING 2020
Michael Kors Spring 2020
Taken place at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Michael Kors’ Spring 2020 fashion show was filled with inspiration from his and his husband's recent visit to Ellis Island. Kors said he left that visit feeling as patriotic as ever. This can be assumed by looking at the collection as it is full of stars, stripes and red, white and blue. Kors also gave the Spring ‘20 collection a real ’40s slant because he feels that was the last time that the country felt truly united. Military jackets and exaggerated shoulders really gave this collection an all-American feel. There was also some 80s’ edge thrown into the mix with gingham ruffles and puffy polka dots. Not to mention some punk rock vibes represented by leather, leopard print and chunky belts making this come off as a very erratic collection, yet one of his best.

The end all be all of this season’s NYFW was definitely that trends never die, even the ones we never thought we would see again. For the last couple of years now we have seen almost every decade's fashion make a comeback. Even in just the three shows discussed above, it is clear that the hottest, most popular trends don’t necessarily have to be new. If you are looking to replicate this season’s NYFW looks while not breaking your bank, you may want to consider buying pre-loved instead of new!
